Summer Soccer Is Here: What’s Ahead for Teams This Season

Inside: how to make the most of summer soccer, this week’s spotlights, and a look at the UnitedGoals USA events ahead.

Good morning,

My goal with every email is simple: to share my passion for youth soccer and the community that makes it thrive.

This will be our last regular newsletter for a little while before we shift into a run of event previews and recaps. I hope you enjoy it.

What’s Ahead This Summer

Summer is one of the best times of year for youth soccer. Players get more freedom, teams build chemistry, and families can enjoy the game without the full pressure of the season schedule.

We’ve got a strong run of events ahead over the next two months, including CenPenn Summer Cup, Kicks 4 Canines, 7v7 July Jamboree, 7v7 Colonial Classic, North Carolina 7v7 Cup, and 4v4 Loudoun Legends Shootout.

If your team is still looking for the right fit this summer, take a look at what’s ahead and find the event that makes the most sense for your group.

Coach’s Corner: Train Smarter in Summer Heat

We all know FIFA’s hydration breaks in the 2026 World Cup are just a cover for increasing advertising revenue, but the idea behind them still matters for your players.

Summer training does not need to be longer or heavier to be effective. Keep sessions sharp, technical, and organized. Focus on shorter, high-quality blocks, build in water breaks, and protect intensity by managing the environment instead of just pushing through it.

USA Football wrote a detailed article about heat illness, ranging from cramps and exhaustion to exertional heat stroke, so smart planning, shade, rest, and hydration all matter in summer conditions.

Parents’ Corner: Enjoy Summer Soccer

Summer soccer can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the year for families. The weather is better, the atmosphere is lighter, and there’s more room to just enjoy watching your child play.

It’s a good reminder to soak in the experience — the goals, the friendships, the travel, and the little moments that make the game memorable. Some of the best youth soccer memories come from weekends like these.

Players’ Corner: Folarin Balogun Took His Chance

Folarin Balogun is a perfect example of why strikers have to stay ready. In the U.S. opener, he scored two goals in a 4–1 win over Paraguay, becoming the first American since 1930 to score twice in a World Cup match.

For younger players, that’s the lesson: stay sharp, make decisive runs, and be ready when your moment comes. Balogun’s movement and finishing were the difference, and it showed how quickly a player can change a game by being prepared in the biggest moments. (The Guardian)

Girls Team of the Week: JASA Hammerheads

Nobody found the back of the net against the JASA Hammerheads at last month’s Zoo City Summer Classic.

After a 3–0 opening win, they only got stronger, finishing the weekend with an 18–0 goal differential across their final two matches. These girls can play.

Congratulations, Hammerheads!

Boys Team of the Week: Titans FC

Titans FC traveled 130 miles to the Zoo City Summer Classic — and made the trip count.

They rolled through group play, highlighted by a 3–1 win over FWSC and a 3–0 victory over Union Youth FC to claim first place. Well done, boys!

Will they do it again at the North Carolina 7v7 Cup in August?

Community Spotlight: Montour Youth Soccer Association

Montour Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) has been part of our Western PA soccer community since the very first 7v7 Colonial Classic in 2023, even before UnitedGoals USA officially launched.

We’re grateful for the continued support their coaches, players, and families have shown our events over the years. Clubs like MYSA help make these weekends special!
