⚽ Pittsburgh Preseason Cup Recap: 49 Teams, 1 Big Day, 8 Champions
Inside: Champions crowned, standout moments, a simple drill to improve first touch, and advice from Lionel Messi for players

Great morning,
What a way to kick off our 2026 season! Thank you to every player, coach, parent, and volunteer who made the 4v4 Pittsburgh Preseason Cup such an amazing experience.
We hosted 49 teams from across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, with clubs traveling from as far as the Potomac Highlands, Morgantown, Dubois, State College, St. Clairsville, and throughout the Pittsburgh region. The level of competition and energy all day long was exactly what we aim to deliver.
We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this event happen.
Now let’s take a look at who came home with hardware ⬇️
🏆 Champions & Runner-Ups
Congratulations to all of our champions and finalists from this weekend!
The level of skill, intensity, and competitiveness across every division stood out — and these teams earned it.
For the full event recap and photo album, head over to our Facebook page. We’ll be sharing photos, team highlights, and a champions post throughout the week — so be sure to follow and tag your teams.
Time to return to your regular UnitedGoals USA programming: Coach’s, Parent’s, and Player’s Corners below ⬇️
Coach’s Corner: Two Ball Passing & Receiving Drill
Coaches, this simple two-ball drill is a great way to improve passing accuracy, first touch, and awareness under pressure.
The built-in variations keep players engaged while encouraging quick decision-making and strong communication. It’s easy to set up, but brings a game-like intensity that translates directly to match performance.
Parents Corner: Why At-Home Practice Matters for First Touch
One of the best ways for young players to improve is consistent at-home reps—especially when it comes to first touch.
A strong first touch helps players control the ball, make quicker decisions, and play with confidence in any situation. Just 10–15 minutes a day can make a noticeable difference in games.
For a deeper breakdown, this article from Accio explains how first touch impacts control, confidence, and decision-making on the field:
Players Corner: Lionel Messi - Play With Passion

Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players of all time, reminds young athletes that success comes from passion and love for the game. He emphasizes that even at the highest levels of competition, it is important to stay humble, keep learning, and not let pressure take away from the joy of playing.
His message, which you can watch in this YouTube video, is simple: enjoy soccer, work hard every day, and never lose your love for the game.
